Sally Neill grew up in one of Ohio’s many beautiful small college towns where her choice of activity was always outside in any season — sledding, ice skating, riding a bike, swimming, playing sports, or going to the park to wander in the woods. That was the beginning of her affinity for the outdoors and a growing interest in and love for the natural world.
After earning a Bachelor of Science in Nursing at Ohio State University, she and her new husband left Ohio to live and work in several large midwestern cities. Six years passed before a job offer in Ogden, Utah, beckoned. Leaving Pittsburgh in a U-Haul truck and towing a travel trailer, they arrived in Ogden and never looked back. The lifestyle in the West trumped that of the East, especially when she and her family discovered Island Park through friends and camping at Riverside Campground. Their love of the area, especially of Harriman State Park, was cemented when they built their cabin in Pinehaven in 2000.
Aside from creating and operating a bakery for 11 years, Sally was privileged to stay at home while raising two boys, and soon became committed to volunteering in Ogden. Feeling strongly about giving back to her community, over the years she immersed herself in several nonprofit organizations, while serving on boards of directors, working on projects, creating and running fundraisers, and honing administrative skills as chair. When asked to join the Friends board, with a firm belief in its mission, she felt there was no better way to give back to this special community than through completing projects that enhance Harriman State Park.
